The largest gay population in Western Canada lives in this ocean-wrapped and snow-capped city. Its gay community is centred around two distinctly different neighbourhoods – the West End and Commercial Drive, both of which enjoy a wide variety of restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and boutiques catering to gays and lesbians.

Our Club Skirts “Blogs To Click” series is a celebration of the diverse talented and leading voices that make up our queer blogosphere.

We zoom in on our many LGBT bloggers and social media influencers that are creating change, building community, and sharing content on their online platforms, not only because we absolutely love the work they do, but also, and most importantly,  because they truly deserve to be in the spotlight … and we think you will love them too!

WHO: The Fab Femme is the brainchild of Aryka Randall, a 26 year old media mogul in the making from San Diego, California. After relocating to Louisiana in 2004, Randall became active in her local LGBTQ community. It was here she saw the need for a more diversified representation of topics relating to the LGBTQ in the media. She decided to create a blog that would cater to a number of demographics infusing her passion for blogging, writing, and public relations.
WHAT: Since its inception, TheFabFemme.com has become widely popular creating a new avenue for African-American LBGTQ women by bringing visibility to lesbian women of color and putting them into main stream media.
WHY YOU SHOULD CLICK: With her blog, Randall works to unite women of color by creating an online web series that promotes positive images of African-American and Hispanic-American women. In the future, she hopes to continue writing and to inspire young women by excelling for greatness through positivity while maintaining a healthy work ethic.
This young go-getter didn’t just stop at the creation of a blog; her latest project, Girl Play, is a web series, set in New Orleans, which sheds light on fictional southern lesbian femmes carving out their own careers and identities in the eclectic city. It has already been compared to both Sex and the City and The L Word thanks to its sometimes funny and frank discussions about life, love and sex.
And did we mention Aryka made the GoMag “100 Women We Love” list featuring this year’s selection of 100 out women who have made an impact on the community?

“We met in 2008 at the white party and exchanged numbers since I thought she was hot! She lived in LA and I was in San Diego and we dated for a about year before making it official. 
We now live together, with our pooch Mozart, in San Diego.” - Lisette Martinez

 
 
2. JENNIFER AND SHANETTE
“My wife and I at Dinah 2 years ago. If I recall correctly, this was at the closing party.We met in the hallway at the Riviera in 2010, and have been together ever since. She lived in Phoenix at the time, and I lived in Vegas. 
We traded travel weekends EVERY weekend for 4 months until she moved to Vegas. We did our Domestic Partnership in March of this year, and will have the full ceremony in September 2015″ – Jennifer McHugh

“Chris and I met working at Dinah in 2011. In 2012, despite the extreme long distance between us, we decided to move forward with our relationship and make the effort to see each other as much as possible and or Skype everyday.

“Noelle and I met BECAUSE of the DINAH.
My roomie Jenna was going solo & her girlfriend Liz told her ” hey, my friend Noelle is going by herself too. You should meet her so you can hang out.” 
So on the Monday Night before the Dinah,  my roomie, her girlfriend and I went to the Abbey & Noelle was going to pop over and meet Jenna so she they could talk about the Dinah and meet before the weekend.
I didn’t know any of this was happening at the time until right before Noelle came by. I had never met her. She walked in and started to talk to Liz and my roomie. I was talking to someone else and then they made the introductions.  We just all had a social hour and by the end of the night, I asked her to dinner and we went out the Wednesday before Dinah for dinner.  The dinner led to her asking if I would like to join her at the Dinah Shore weekend, as she was staying at a friend’s home and it would be a great way to get to know each other – plus I had never been.
So I was off to Dinah and the rest is history. I’m a psychic medium and this one event I didn’t see coming*! lol
We have taken our relationship slowly up until about a month ago, when I asked Noelle to marry me.
When you know, you know…. :)   So there you go

Fortune Feimster, who landed her writer/performer spot with “Chelsea Lately” six months after her appearance on “Last Comic Standing” where she was a semifinalist, will be joined by another Last Comic Standing alumni, British comic Gina Yashere, and stand up’s fastest rising star, Erin Foley.

Guaranteeing a laugh-fest, Feimster, Foley, and Yashere offer the perfect explosive mix of comedy! Mary Lambert, the featured vocalist and songwriter on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ MTV VMA award-winning pro-equality anthem “Same Love”, is confirmed to be performing at the original Dinah Shore Weekend in Palm Springs also known as The Dinah.

 

The Seattle-based singer-songwriter and spoken word artist, Mary Lambert will take the stage on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the Hilton Hotel for the grand finale of the Dinah’s legendary series of pool parties.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lambert has single-handedly captured the attention of the entire nation and the LGBT community with her incredible breakout role in Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ single “Same Love”. The song, a heartfelt plea for tolerance and gay rights, on which she wrote and sings its hauntingly catchy chorus, has allowed Lambert’s voice to reach millions.  It was recorded during the campaign for Washington State Referendum 74, which resulted in legalized same-sex marriages.

 

As one of the biggest music revelations of 2013, Lambert went from juggling several jobs to playing in front of thousands of people, touring across the country, and performing live on national television on such hugely popular primetime and late night shows as The Ellen DeGeneres Show, VH1, and The Colbert Report, to name a few. “Same Love” has sold over a million copies in the US alone, peaking at number 11 on The Billboard Hot 100. It won the award for “Best Video with a Social Message” at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards and a highly acclaimed live performance with special guest Jennifer Hudson.  

Lambert recently expanded on the chorus of her marriage equality anthem releasing the very personal song, “She Keeps Me Warm,” about being in love with a woman. The song’s video has attracted more than 2 million views on VEVO and YouTube since the single dropped in the summer. What are you most looking forward to at the Dinah this year?
I’m excited to see my friends from the east coast. There’s a posse coming in for
the craziness. I’m also looking forward to performing with Fortune and Gina who I absolutely adore on and off the stage. And, of course, seeing boobs. 
What do you have planned for your show?
Magic and puppets and fireworks.
How will it feel to perform to thousands of hot women? Do you think it’ll be different audience than a regular show?
Performing for thousands of hot women, yes, I would say that’s different than ALL of my shows. Can’t wait. I’ve performed at Dinah a couple of times and the audiences were great.  The women are there to laugh and have a good time which is all you can ask for.
What does the Dinah represent to you? How do you think it has served the LGBT community for the past 24 years?
I think The Dinah provides an amazing, safe space for lesbos to hang out with other lesbos. I’ve been lucky to live in NYC and LA for the last 15 years and those cities have a built in gay community. I think The Dinah does an amazing job of creating that community (even for just 3-4 days) for women who don’t have that back home. It’s really wonderful. 
What would people be most surprised to find in your suitcase for The Dinah?

 

Heels? Packages of almonds? A good luck gnome?
What is the one fashion trend you wish would just die?
Tevas. On land. I don’t even want to see them near the water.
What is the one fashion item you cannot live without?
I’m obsessed with large, chunky watches. And I love high tops. That’s two fashion items. Lesbian fashion items.
What was the most embarrassing yet comical moment of your life?
I was hit with an onion ring mid show. I was performing in a lunch room at a college in Peoria, IL when I first started doing comedy on the road. It’s funny now, not so much in the moment. But I survived and managed to still have a healthy relationship with onion rings.

 

Who’s your female celebrity crush?
Heidi Klum. Halle Berry. Jennifer Lopez if she doesn’t speak. 
What’s your “guilty pleasure” song?
I hate to admit it, but As Long As You Love Me by Justin Bieber. He’s a turd but that song is insanely catchy. And my friend Renee and I have memorized the rap part. That happened. 
Are you into the TV show “Orange is The New Black”; and if yes who’s your favorite character and why?
Yes, I love that show. I think you’d have to be in a coma not to enjoy it. Too far?
My favorite character is Alex because I have an insane crush on Laura Prepon.

 

Worst gig (and why)? Best gig?
Worst gig: see the answer to no. 9. Onion ring, enough said. Best gig? I think my two appearances on Conan were amazing. They might be tied with the night I taped my Comedy Central half hour special in New York City. I will never forget that night. 
What can you tell us about your upcoming project(s) for 2014?
My upcoming projects…lots of fun road gigs coming up next year. My full schedule is www.erinkfoley.com.

“HOW I MET MY PARTNER”:

1. LISETTE & PATTY
“We met in 2008 at the white party and exchanged numbers since I thought she was hot! She lived in LA and I was in San Diego and we dated for a about year before making it official. 
We now live together, with our pooch Mozart, in San Diego.” - Lisette Martinez

 
 
2. JENNIFER AND SHANETTE
“My wife and I at Dinah 2 years ago. If I recall correctly, this was at the closing party.We met in the hallway at the Riviera in 2010, and have been together ever since. She lived in Phoenix at the time, and I lived in Vegas. 
We traded travel weekends EVERY weekend for 4 months until she moved to Vegas. We did our Domestic Partnership in March of this year, and will have the full ceremony in September 2015″ – Jennifer McHugh
3. LILIA AND CHRIS
“Chris and I met working at Dinah in 2011. In 2012, despite the extreme long distance between us, we decided to move forward with our relationship and make the effort to see each other as much as possible and or Skype everyday. 
It wasn’t long before we couldn’t stand being apart, I moved to Northern New York to be closer. I proposed and Chris said yes, and we married shortly after. 
I am happy to say that we are celebrating our one year wedding anniversary on Nov 3rd and will continue to live happily ever after in Easter Canada.” – Lilia Brekke
 
4. KATE AND NOELLE
 
“Noelle and I met BECAUSE of the DINAH.
My roomie Jenna was going solo & her girlfriend Liz told her ” hey, my friend Noelle is going by herself too. You should meet her so you can hang out.” 
So on the Monday Night before the Dinah,  my roomie, her girlfriend and I went to the Abbey & Noelle was going to pop over and meet Jenna so she they could talk about the Dinah and meet before the weekend.
I didn’t know any of this was happening at the time until right before Noelle came by. I had never met her. She walked in and started to talk to Liz and my roomie. I was talking to someone else and then they made the introductions.  We just all had a social hour and by the end of the night, I asked her to dinner and we went out the Wednesday before Dinah for dinner.  The dinner led to her asking if I would like to join her at the Dinah Shore weekend, as she was staying at a friend’s home and it would be a great way to get to know each other – plus I had never been.
So I was off to Dinah and the rest is history. I’m a psychic medium and this one event I didn’t see coming*! lol
We have taken our relationship slowly up until about a month ago, when I asked Noelle to marry me.
When you know, you know…. :)   So there you go

Reminiscent of its 2009 phenomenal line-up of performances by international mega-superstars Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, Club Skirts DinahShore Weekend hits a home run again this year with a huge concert- program featuring one of today’s biggest music stars: pop sensation Tegan and Sara.

 

The iconic world-renown lesbian event – the original Dinah Shore Weekend – is celebrating its 24th Anniversary by upping up the volume more than a notch, and scoring a sizzling coup for its high-profiled party on Saturday night.

 

Keeping the festivities at the Palm Springs Convention Center – the desert’s largest concert venue – twin sisters Tegan and Sara will headline the famed soiree on Saturday, April 5, 2014.

 

Continuing their mission to become the biggest pop sensation out of Canada since Justin Bieber, Tegan and Sara have been on an unstoppable meteoric rise since the release of their 7th studio album dubbed “Heartthrob”, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200. The band’s lead single “Closer” has broken into the Top 20 on the Pop Charts, is currently on rotation on over 150 Top 40 radio nationwide, and week after week keeps a solid spot on the VH1’s Top 20 Countdown.

 

 

Canadian-born Tegan and Sara Quin have been lesbian cult favorites ever since they first grabbed attention as 15-year-olds. They are sisters, they are twins, they are both lesbian, and they make outstanding music. It’s no surprise they recently have been invited to perform “Closer” with Taylor Swift at one of her August Staples Center shows, were featured on NBC’s The Today Show on September 30th, and were handpicked by Dinah alumnus, Katy Perry, to perform at the “We Can Survive” benefit concert on October 23 at the Hollywood Bowl.

The band has just released a brand new track entitled “Shudder to Think” as part of the soundtrack for the Oscar-buzzing film “Dallas Buyer’s Club”, which premiered with RollingStone.com.
